Bug Hunting with Zealandia

On Friday morning we went bug hunting with the team from Zealandia.

Room 3 and Room 4 went off with Anne from Zealandia up past the court by Room 9.  We lifted up stones and rocks and looked under leaf litter and logs.  We scooped up slugs, centipedes, worms,  slaters and a spider.  We looked and counted them and then put them back.  All the information we collated went onto a Zealandia website.

Science in a Van

Emily and Allan came to visit us to share a science show.

We began our morning with a whole school assembly where we learned about forces. Objects move if you push or pull them...but gravity has a part to play too.

After morning tea, we had a junior session during which we learned about mixtures and gases. We now know that if you mix two materials together they can mix, separate or cause a reaction.  We also found out that some gases are heavier than air like carbon dioxide, and that some are lighter, such as helium.

Allan blew bubbles. There were small bubbles, BIG bubbles, bubbles inside bubbles, heavy bubbles and bubbles that looked like a volcano!

It was good fun and we now have lots more science knowledge in our brains!

At Last.....

It was so hot today we went swimming. Yay!!  The water was lovely and warm and we all went in and made BIG splashes!

Our swimming days are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

Miss Shen

Yesterday Miss Shen came to meet us. She is our new Language assistant.  She comes from Tianjin, near Beijing in China.  Over the year, Miss Shen is going to be teaching us some games and songs from China.

counting our school days

We are counting the days we have been at school this year. Today we have been at school for 10 days. We were all very excited when we could make a bundle with our sticks.

Dressing Up

We love dressing up and playing ladies.

Reading in the library

On Tuesdays and Fridays we have our library days. We are going to try and have our library books at school on these days so we can change them and bring a new book home to read.

Our Class Treaty

As a class we have made a class treaty. We will refer to this all the time. It will help us remember how to be great class  members.

We are all ready to share the things we put into our green bags to tell the class all about ourselves. It was a great idea as it reminded us of interesting things to share about ourselves.
